binair01 ● Sonar | Gentse Feesten
Sonar ● the African cumbia connection (mnsr zér0)
Gent based dj mnsr zér0 is part of the binair01 music selection team and hosts the Sonar and Partyzani booth. His mix digs deep into #planetmusic and connects Latin cumbia with one of its multiple origins: African rhythms. The Sonar party editions focus on all the latest evolutions of contemporary, innovative and extremely catchy party music from the South.
Once a year the Sonar whale strikes De Centrale with an extended XL version, adding live bands to the party concept.
20:45 - 21:35 / Kolonel Djafaar live at Sonar XL
The basis of Kolonel Djafaar's sound is afrobeat and ethio-jazz, a unique fusion of traditional (West-)African rhythms, highlife and Afrofunk, Soul and Latin influences. The new 9-headed instrumental band creates from these rich ingredients a solid, atmospheric set floating on catchy dance music. The result leaves us no room for doubt: right away after their formation they won the ‘podiumprijs Jonge Wolven’ at the latest Gentse Feesten.
22:00 - 23:00 / La Negra Albina live at Sonar XL
La Negra Albina is a quartet consisting of Chilean, Peruvian and Venezuelan musicians. Their music mingles up afro-Colombian cumbia with Brazilian samba and Spanish rumba, finding a perfect balance between warm, intimate chanting and whipping dance rhythms with the added sound colour of cajón and trumpet. This concert presents their new singer, Yoyo Borobia from Venezuela.
23:00 - 3:00 / Rocky Marsiano + mnsr zér0 at Sonar XL
